John Thornton Scheets was born on March 21, 1908 at Yukon, in Texas County, MO to Walter Benjamin Scheets (1884-1965) and Ida Elizabeth (Pruett) Scheets (1889-1970), the oldest of six children. In 1923, he was a founding member of Big Creek Freewill Baptist Church, near Yukon. In 1928, he married Elva Jane Boster (1909-1996), and also became the postmaster at Clara, also informally known as Hightown, serving as postmaster for 45 years until his retirement in 1973, at which time he and Elva moved back to Yukon. On June 17, 1937, he and Elva had their only daughter, Blanche, who married Ed McKinney (1935-2021) in 1960. Their son, Fred McKinney, born December 29, 1967, created this website. John passed away on January 30, 1985, at Yukon at the age of 76 and is buried in Big Creek Cemetery.
